In the first quarter of 2023, printer shipments in Western Europe were 4.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 4.3%.
While overall shipments declined, laser printer shipments grew by 14.5% in the quarter. Color laser printers increased by 37.1% year-on-year, and black and white laser printers increased by 0.4% year-on-year.
Inkjet printer shipments fell by 11.5% year-on-year. Among them, the shipments of color inkjet printers decreased by 11.8% year-on-year, and the shipments of black and white inkjet printers increased by 77.2% year-on-year, but accounted for less than 20,000 units.
In terms of brands, HP has a market share of 38.8%, maintaining its leading position in the market. Epson‘s market share increased by 0.3% year-on-year to 20.7%. Canon‘s shipments decreased year-on-year, while Brother‘s shipments increased year-on-year.

From a country perspective, Germany‘s overall shipments in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 15.4%, and both the inkjet and color laser fields showed year-on-year growth. Inkjet printer shipments increased by 15.7% year-over-year, while laser printer shipments increased by 14.7%.
Shipments in France fell by 10.8% in the quarter. Inkjet printers fell 15.7%, but laser printer shipments rose 7.5%. Among them, color laser printers increased by 19.6%.
The UK was weaker in the quarter, with total shipments down 16%, inkjet down 24% y/y and laser up 24.6% y/y.
Italy achieved 4.8% growth in the quarter, mainly due to a 13% increase in laser printer shipment. Inkjet printer shipment were essentially flat, rising 0.3 percent.
Shipments of laser printers in Spain increased by 15.4%, but inkjet printers fell by 13.9% year-on-year, and overall shipments fell by 5.2%.
